The Coronavirus Startup Survival Guide / Adapting Your Business And Pivoting During The Coronavirus Outbreak

Adapting your business and pivoting during the Coronavirus Outbreak

It is more than likely your start-up has been interrupted due to Covid 19. Many though are taking their businesses online as in those who provide services such as training.

For product-based businesses like my own, I have had to pivot. I now have brought in new products more suited to current circumstances. I am also now using my manufacturer to make Face Masks as the need for this product will increase week upon week. The price is very low, and I donate where needed and I ask others to buy and donate also. No one wants to be seen to be profiteering from current crisis, although I know many are.

Lockdown has not been an issue for me, as I work alone, and being an ecommerce site orders still coming in and getting sent out (post a bit slow). In fact, it has become a bit of a sanctuary, I either go there or seek a divorce lawyer who is still working!!!

The measures put in place by the Chancellor have been a big help to some, but there are too many categories outside the net. This is particularly true for start ups because of the variations, as in sole trader, limited company, whether you have premises or not. If anyone has queries regarding these measures please contact me at email below.

Now what advice would I give to start ups?

Firstly, do not give up, this will pass. I would suggest you spend the time learning some of the skills you will need in business, there are many.

Also, there are opportunities if you know your market. The first is that people are spending more time on the internet, so out go the rules of when is it a good time to market. as in time for placing adverts.

Secondly there is a lot of disposable income around certain groups of people, they cannot go out for meals, they no longer have to chauffeur their children around, so less on petrol and not able to take their usual half term holiday.
