Australian Investment Network - Speed Pitching Events

Web-based investment matching service Australian Investment Network is to hold speed pitching events in Melbourne and Sydney next month (March).

The Melbourne event will be held at Melbourne University Business School on March 3 and the Sydney event at the Graduate School of Management, University of Western Sydney, Westmead, on March 9.

One the opportunities to be presented, String Transport System, holds local rights to a Russian-developed lightweight overhead rail system which the company believes could have key applications in the Australian mining industry.

Other opportunities include a biotech company, the chairman of which is a former Qantas executive; an export-focused company with an exclusive drink product; a marketing and advertising agency which achieves environmental credibility for its clients; and a romance website which is has some hard headed business executives behind it, including one from Macquarie Bank.

Only ten presentations will be made at each event and each will be strictly limited to four minutes maximum. No question time will be added on; potential investors will instead be able to meet the presenters at the end of the session.

Organiser of the events, Dr Tania Peitzker, said the concept was based on successful events recently held in the UK. Australia had been chosen for further events as the international online Angel Investment Network, of which the Australian site is part, had attracted particularly strong interest in Australia and New Zealand through 2009.

Entrepreneurs presenting at the events pay a modest fee while potential investors attend free by invitation.
Dr Peitzker said 50 established local investors from the network would be the core investors.
